Pricing & Scope
We quote by project scope, not by drawing count or hours. The three scopes below are our most common engagements; the written quote after assessment is final. Prices are in RMB, tax included at 1%. Prices updated 2026-10-14, valid until 2028-10-13.
Three scopes and indicative prices
| Item | A. Form design only | B. Form + mechanical | C. Full service to mass production |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | You have an engineering team and need the form | You have electronics and need a toolable enclosure and structure; mechanical + CMF on an existing appearance design is also scoped here | From idea to first shipment with one team |
| Indicative price (RMB, tax included) | 30k-80k | 50k-120k | from 200k |
| Main price drivers | Product size and complexity, number of concepts, whether CMF is included | Part count, assembly complexity, ingress protection (IP) rating, thermal and sealing requirements | All of the above, plus prototype rounds, tooling trial rounds and whether on-site support is needed |
What each scope includes
A. Form design only
- Requirements and problem definition, with design constraints made explicit
- Concepts: concept sketches and renderings
- Refinement: a 3D form model of the chosen direction and renderings
- Delivery: files organized and archived with an index
B. Form + mechanical (everything in A, plus)
- 3D mechanical design data, assembly and process notes
- Key parts modeled first to verify dimensions and assembly logic
- Manufacturability checks: draft, wall thickness, ribs and parting lines
C. Full service to mass production (everything in B, plus)
- Prototyping and validation, and first-batch production follow-through; the exact scope is set in the written quote
Not part of the default deliverables
- Prototype, tooling and certification testing costs are charged separately.
- Medical device registration, clinical evaluation and regulatory compliance: if a project involves them, the responsible team, required information and collaboration boundaries are agreed before work begins.
Payment milestones
| Milestone | Without mass-production acceptance | With mass-production acceptance |
|---|---|---|
| Signing | 30% | 30% |
| Concept sign-off | 20% | 20% |
| Mechanical sign-off | 50% | 40% |
| Mass-production acceptance | - | 10% (final payment) |
Revisions, tax and IP
Revisions
- The design fee includes 3 rounds of revisions.
- Beyond 3 rounds, or for major changes after the direction is confirmed, additional fees are agreed with the client.
Tax and invoices
- The design fee is tax-inclusive, at a 1% tax rate.
- We issue a VAT ordinary invoice by default; a VAT special invoice is available on request.
IP and source files
- Once the design fee is paid in full, the intellectual property of the design belongs to the client.
- Source files are delivered according to the client's requirements.
- IDING DESIGN retains the right to credit the work for award entries and self-promotion.
Typical timelines (by product complexity)
| Product type | Typical timeline |
|---|---|
| Simple, small products (e.g. digital devices) | 1-2 months |
| Medium complexity and size (e.g. home appliances) | about 3 months |
| Development-type products (e.g. motion mechanisms, electromechanical systems and other core components) | about 6 months |
Timelines are estimated by product complexity, not by scope. Tooling lead time is not included. The exact schedule also depends on the commissioned stages, available information and review arrangements, and is confirmed in writing once requirements are agreed.
How to start
- 01
Submit your requirements: product purpose, users, current development stage, key dimensions and internal layout, fixed constraints and expected deliverables.
- 02
IDING DESIGN replies with an initial assessment within 3 days.
- 03
Once the scope is confirmed, we issue a written quote and schedule.
- 04
Sign the contract and pay the kickoff instalment; the project starts.
We sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before a project starts to protect your product information.
Pricing and collaboration FAQ
Roughly how much do form-only, form + mechanical and full-service projects cost?
Indicative ranges (RMB): form design only 30k-80k; form + mechanical 50k-120k (mechanical and CMF on an existing appearance design is also scoped here); full service to mass production from 200k. The written quote after assessment is final. Prices are in RMB, tax included at 1%. Prices updated 2026-10-14, valid until 2028-10-13.
Do the design fees include prototypes and tooling?
No. Prototype, tooling and certification testing costs are charged separately.
How many revisions are included, and what happens beyond that?
The design fee includes 3 rounds of revisions. Beyond 3 rounds, or for major changes after the direction is confirmed, additional fees are agreed with the client.
Are the design fees tax-inclusive, and what invoices can you issue?
Yes, at a 1% tax rate. We issue a VAT ordinary invoice by default; a VAT special invoice is available on request.
Are source files delivered, and who owns the IP?
Once the design fee is paid in full, the intellectual property of the design belongs to the client. Source files are delivered according to the client's requirements. IDING DESIGN retains the right to credit the work for award entries and self-promotion.
How are payments split?
Payment in three instalments: 30% on signing, 20% on concept sign-off, 50% on mechanical design sign-off; if the project includes mass-production acceptance, it is 40% on mechanical sign-off and the remaining 10% on mass-production acceptance.
How long does a typical industrial design project take?
By product complexity: simple, small products (e.g. digital devices) 1-2 months; medium complexity and size (e.g. home appliances) about 3 months; development-type products (e.g. motion mechanisms, electromechanical systems and other core components) about 6 months. Tooling lead time is not included; the exact schedule is confirmed in writing once requirements are agreed.
Does medical device design include regulatory registration?
No. Medical device registration, clinical evaluation and regulatory compliance are not part of the default deliverables. If a project involves them, the responsible team, required information and collaboration boundaries are agreed before work begins.
